    Describe a particular product and how the media capitalizes on sex to sell it beyond its capabilities as a mere product.

    A particular product that I choose would be the new Calvin Klein Secret Obsession perfume commercial featuring Eva Mendes that been banned by Stateside TV networks for being too racy. The design of the bottle shows a voluptuous perfume bottle with a light shinning in bottle as the main attraction of the whole print ads with a strong typography being used. The colour of the advertisement is black in colour with only the perfume bottle stands out in the print.

    The media commented that there are too much of sex appeal in the advertisement, this cause an uproar in Calvin Klein Company as it brings down the company sales. As the targeted audience thinks that Calvin Klein is trying to sell sex instead of the product.

    How the media capitalizes on sex to sell it beyond its capabilities as a mere product would be the commercial that was shot by Steven Meisel. As Calvin Klein’s newest perfume, Obsession is a brand resonates in a very provocative place and Calvin Klein has been represented as sexiness and freedom to express yourself over the years and the ads of Obsession shows Mendes lying naked on her back with her head tilt back a little, her hand postures shows her left hand cover up her breast and her right hand places on her neck in black and white colour picture with the Obsession perfume appear on the middle of her upper torso in colour to be stands out in the commercial.
